Be Kind to your mind

We’re better together

The days may be getting darker, but keeping connected with loved ones should bring brightness back into lockdown.

We suggest that you set yourself some limitations on how much time you spend looking at your phone, making sure you’re connecting with people rather than just getting lost in the ultimate scroll (we’ve all been there). Don’t follow anything or anybody that makes you feel rubbish, we all need good news and positivity at this time. Some of our favourite social channels are: thehappynewspaper, dogsofinstagram and happynotperfect.

You can follow our Wellbeing at MAB Facebook page to keep up to date with the wellbeing resources available to you. And don’t forget, we’re still allowed to meet one other person for a walk outside. There’s been no better excuse to dust off your coat, call up a loved one and get some fresh air.

Be kind to your mind

The most important thing during lockdown is not to put pressure on yourself to do, or achieve, anything. This isn’t a competition, and while we might all be in the same storm, we are in different boats. There is no right or wrong here, so if you’re well and truly over baking banana bread, put the oven gloves down and try something new; even if that’s binge watching The Crown or catching up on some sleep.

We’re not in this alone, take a look at ‘The Burnt Chef Project’ on social for some useful tips and honest conversations about mental health within hospitality.

We also have wellbeing support available on Mable and the Pickaperk wellbeing centre ‘Mind’ section.

Finally, our Employee Assistance Programme is a free confidential helpline open 24/7. They are experts in supporting people working in hospitality, so if you need someone to talk to during these uncertain times, please call 0808 801 0550.

LETS GET PHYSiCAL

Looking back at the beginning of the first lockdown, we were blessed with the sun. Some of us used the sunshine to get out and exercise, resulting in being in the best shape of our lives. Others of us used it to sunbathe with a glass of wine, resulting in the best tan of our lives (no regrets here!). Times have changed and winter is coming (no Game of Thrones pun intended). We know that it wont be so easy to get outside this time round, so we wanted to share some of our favourite home workouts.

Joe Wicks will be releasing a ‘Wake up with Joe’ workout on YouTube three times per week. Or you could even practice your downward dog, with ‘Yoga with Adrienne’. There’s even 30 day yoga for beginners, so you don’t need to be a yogi to give it a go.

You can also head to www.pickaperk.co.uk to use the wellbeing centre for a whole host of health and fitness related information and materials.
