What will you learn on an IT graduate scheme at M&B?

What will you learn on an IT graduate scheme at M&B?

Why are IT teams an integral part of any company? For Martyn Eddins, Head of Technology & Support at M&B, technology is an essential piece of the puzzle when organisations question how to deliver their strategic objectives. Martyn has been a part of the IT team at Mitchells & Butlers for over 17 years. So, when we wanted to learn more about the Business Change Technology (BC&T) BC&T Graduate Scheme that we offer at M&B, he was the first person we reached out to.

Martyn told us, 'The BC&T Graduate Scheme is designed to develop well-rounded IT professionals, ready to build their future careers in Change & Technology.'

Check out what else Martyn had to say about the scheme and why he thinks M&B is a great place for IT professionals eager to progress.

What type of placements does the scheme involve?

"The scheme involves learning more about architecture, information security, service management, technical operations, project and portfolio management, and business analysis."

It's exactly as Martyn says, the scheme is designed to make sure you develop a broad skill set and begin to see how that knowledge can help a business in a competitive landscape. And, that's just one of the top five benefits of a graduate scheme at M&B

What skills, experience and qualifications do you need to apply?

We’re looking for graduates with a 2:1 degree or above, expected or achieved. But more than that, we’re looking for people who are passionate about our business and who’ll apply their hard-working nature to deliver great work. Here are some of the other skills that Martyn sees as essential for this scheme.

"You will need to be a great communicator and be able to explain the technology and benefits to people that are not technical. Also, you will need good attention to detail and be a great problem solver.

But most of all, you will need to be passionate about how technology can enable M&B and its people to realise the vision to be the first choice for anyone. Whether they're looking to go out for a relaxed, casual meal or drink. Whatever the occasion."

What support can people expect throughout the 18-month programme?

"Embarking on 18 months of varying placements throughout the Change and Technology function, you will benefit from a great deal of on-the-job learning. Plus, you'll get to participate in continuous development through internally organised activities."

On-the-job learning is exactly why many of our graduates choose M&B as their next career move. Your university degree - whether it's in IT, engineering, or something a little different - will have given you a strong foundation of knowledge. Now it's time to put that into practice, build on those skills and earn a competitive salary.

Why should grads choose M&B over other companies?

"Because M&B is an awesome place to learn, have fun, and get involved in making a real difference to our internal stakeholders and, most importantly, our guests!"

Martyn's covered it all.. except for our benefits. We're proud that we can offer a fun and stimulating workplace for all our people, but we also love to do anything we can to make working at M&B that little bit sweeter. Our employee benefits cover everything from a 33% Dine With Us discount at Miller & Carter, Harvester, Premium Country Pubs and many more restaurants and pubs, 50% off PureGym annual memberships, and the option to donate to charity straight from your paycheck. Meaning that you can give to an organisation close to your heart and not pay any tax on it!

What IT roles can these grads expect to step into after completing the scheme?

'Our objective is to ensure that you develop towards your first appointment at pace. At the end of the 18 months, you can apply for suitable roles in the team. And before you know it, you could be interviewed and appointed to your first role.

IT is so varied, so it really depends on your discipline and area of interest! There is a wide range of IT roles within M&B, such as Architect, Project Manager, Security Analyst, Business Analyst and Application Analyst.'

Apply for our BC&T Graduate Scheme here!

If you like the idea of taking your IT skills and using them to help a business thrive, we want to hear from you. No matter which area our team works in, whether it's front of house serving pints, or working back at M&B HQ checking the IT security, our people are all helping to deliver a memorable experience for our guests.

So while our IT teams might seem to be working behind the scenes, they're every bit as important as any other team. If you choose M&B, we'll ensure that you have the support you need to develop an impressive IT career, just like Martyn did.
