Hello! We’re Mitchells & Butlers – we’re a big player in the UK hospitality game. Throughout the UK we have over 1,750 vibrant pubs, restaurants and bars across 18 successful and varied brands. You may have never heard of us before but we’re sure you’ve heard of a few of our brands, like All Bar One, Miller & Carter and Toby Carvery.
We set the industry standard when it comes to delivering excellent guest service and great food & drink, but none of this would be possible without our amazing teams of people and the Area Manager role is one of the most important jobs in our company…
…we have over 100 of them here at M&B, whose job it is to inspire and motivate their team of General Managers across 15 pubs or restaurants each within their specific geography – with no two days ever being the same….this really isn’t an office job.
So what are we looking for from our Area Management graduates?
We mean it when we say this isn’t your average 9-5! Our scheme, and our industry needs ambitious graduates with bags of drive, determination and who love engaging and motivating the people around them. We won’t lie, our scheme is hard work at times but it’s so rewarding. If you’re made of the right stuff you’ll smash it and go on to do great things with us. Area Management Graduate scheme Overview
Our 29-month Scheme fast-tracks you to your first Area Manager role and really sets you up for success, providing a comprehensive understanding of our business. After you’ve completed the scheme, you'll be assigned to one of our brands to manage 15 pubs, bars, or restaurants in a specific region. Looking after and motivating your teams to be the best they can be and giving our guests the best experiences will drive operation excellence and financial success. It all starts with great people, so that’s where you come in.
We will make sure you get there by…
- Pub, Bar or Restaurant placements (Month 1 to 6)
- Rotational placements in Head Office functions like Marketing and Finance (Month 6 to 16)
- Time spent with an Area Manager and learning the Back of House ropes (Months 16 – 18)
- Managing your own Pub, Bar or Restaurant (Month 19 to 21)
- Area Manager shadowing and mentoring (Month 22)
- Operational placements across our brands and Development Centre (Month 22 - 29)
You will be really well supported by a great team of people on your journey with us - your line manager, placement manager, and a graduate buddy from our community of graduates across the business.

All sound exciting so far? To be eligible to join our Area Manager graduate scheme…
· You’ll have, or be on track to achieve at least a 2:1 in a hospitality degree
OR
- You’ll either have, or be on track to achieve at least a 2:1 degree (in any other field) and have achieved ABB grades at A level or above (or equivalent BTEC grades)
You must also:
- Hold a full and valid UK driver’s licence
- As this role is mobile there’s flexibility over where you are based in the UK, but you’ll need to be able to travel to our Head Office located in the heart of Birmingham

1 - Video interview where we’ll get to know a bit about you, and if you impress us here, we’ll invite you to complete Verbal & Numerical Testing (from the comfort of your own home)
2 - Face-to-face interview and group assessments at our Retail Support Centre in Birmingham – where you’ll also get the chance to know more about us (should you progress after video interview)
3 – Final stage senior management interview (should you progress after Face-to-face assessment)
